Entomophagy is the term used to describe eating insects. This practice extends to the consumption of not just the adult insects but their eggs, pupae and larvae as well. This practice has slowly gained an incredible amount of momentum ever since it acquired the backing of the United Nations (UN). The report recently published by the UN describes more than 1,900 edible insects. Consumption of insects is common in most cultures of the world. More than 1000 species of insects are known to be used for culinary purposes as they are free of artificial hormones, antibiotics and pollutants.
Spiders contain an incredible amount of protein. Of these, Tarantula is a delicacy that is enjoyed by hundreds across the world. Fried Tarantulas are a favorite in regions such as Cambodia. Particularly "a-ping” is the Tarantula that is the size of the human palm. Another breed known by the name of the Thai Zebra is a regular feature at many restaurants as well. Tarantulas fried in a handful of MSG, crushed garlic, sugar and salt serve as both; an ideal snack and as main course items.
